McCombie was a standout football player at Purchase Line High School where he was known for his toughness and insane conditioning. McCombie began his MMA career as a self taught fighter. He then migrated to Johnstown, Pa. with Cold Steel Gym under the tutelege of six-time NCAA wrestling champion Carlton Haselrig, before finding a home at Lion-Do Fight Club.
