Garshnick was awarded his Nidan second degree black belt from master Joe Bufagna. He has won numerous state championships and was a junior national judo champion. He has also won the AMCAN Championships as well. Garshnick was also a very accomplished high school wrestler and was a two-time state qualifier while at United High School in Armagh, Pennsylvania. He also wrestled at UPJ under Coach Pecora.
